Chef's Classic/ 10K/ Sharon / MA / Sunday, May 22 -   A cold and windy day with drizzle off and on.  Pretty good size field and tons of food afterwards.  Stacey and Mike tuning up with their first race of the season.  Mike turned in a good time and sixth place finish in his division.  Stacey cramped up at mile three and walked and never fully recovered but still managed a seventh place finish in her division.  Just wait until she is shape.  I was happy with my time coming off a pretty intense work out of hill repeats the day before.  I ran comfortably for the first five miles then the fatigue set in.  Finished fifth in my division.  This is a very scenic course, fairly flat with maybe two mild hills and a gentle incline for the last 3/10's of a mile.  Great food after.  You should consider putting this race on your calendar for next year.

Mansfield High School / 5K/ Mansfield / MA / Sunday, May 22-   Tim Kirk took home third in his division and cracked the 7:00 minute time warp.  Good job Tim!!!  - From Tim - Fairly flat course. Police lead and trail cars as well as police or volunteers at each turn. Some refreshments after the race and a raffle for runners. Not great rewards for our efforts, though, the good prizes were given out with raffle. Finally under 7:00/mile...and with a sore and swollen knee from a fall the day before! I guess those track workouts are paying off!

HMEA/ 5k/ Franklin / MA / Sunday, May 22 -   A large group of TVFR at this race and very good results.  Keith finishing second overall and first in his division.  Mike Sawyer coming of a 12K the day before took fourth overall and second hi his division.  Wayne Borden took sixth in his division showing that it was a fast field.  Jen Jarvis was third woman and first in her division and will be welcome addition to the open field.  From Mike Sawyer - Keith really ran well.  I could see him up there and he did the Larry technique passing the guy that HAD been second and building a good gap on the long downhill section near mile 2 going by the Hotel.  Actually so did I a little, 2 masters working me until that point and ahead of me many times especially before the second mile, but feel like I did a very much faster 3rd mile this time.  I really feel like I worked hard against my own limits and didn't give in to anything I didn't have to today.  Great to see more people at this race like my brother Jerry, Tara rooting us on, Jen Jarvis 3rd female overall! Paul Shanahan; Wayne Borden; Jay McGonnell did I miss mentioning anyone else Tri-Valley? I really like it when more of us for company!

Bedford Rotary Memorial 12K / Bedford  / NH / Saturday, May 21 - Another cold and damp weekend.  But that didn't stop these runners from the USATF series race. The TVFR scoring team had Larry, John, Mike, George and Brent as the leading scorers.  Chart those ages out on a graph!!!!!   Larry led TVFR and finished third in his division, John Brown was right behind followed by Mike Sawyer.  Brent took second in his division and George took fourth.  Not bad when you look at the quality runners in this race.

Run with the Pack / 5K / Bar Harbor / ME / Saturday, May 14 -  Good to hear from our friend in Bar Harbor  - From Don Bell - Started out flat for about 1 mile then a short med. steep hill followed by a short down hill the next half mile flat a quarter mile uphill med steep the rest of the way down and flat. Very low key and fun first race.  I have had in a long while have to catch up to Larry.
This race was very small as about 30 people from this running club were going to Sugarloaf for the Marathon and 15k. Next year I think I will try the 15k. The temp was about 45o and it was overcast.

Grafton Gazebo / 5 miles / Grafton / MA / Saturday, May 7 -   Raining hard in Grafton as well as Attleboro. It kept the TVFR turnout down in our third race of the series.  John Brown led all TVFR with a blistering pace just weeks off his marathon.  George Cunha avenged himself and destroyed age nemesis Joe Drugan.  Brent Schauler and Ryan Kirk had a race to the finish.  Tim Kirk a great run after his marathon.  Missing in action man Jay McGonnell making his first race appearance since Thanksgiving Day.  David Bryan showing that track work outs do help in the 5 miles distance.  Wendy Newsham running herself into shape.  Great job by the TVFR runners and the race volunteers.  Pictures shown below are courtesy of Barry Smith CMS striders

Gold's Gym / 5K / Millis / MA / Sunday, May 1 -   Rain and drizzle for this one.  First year local race with the Perry Clan showing up and doing very well.  Papa Perry finishing third overall and just coming off a great Boston Marathon.  Mama Perry, Ben and Samantha Perry keeping Pace.  Jerry Sawyer making a comeback after a season ending illness last year had a great first race.  From Jerry - This was a great race for me to get back into running. I felt strong ,but slow. No running related issues. Post race snacks included bagels and cream cheese, oranges, coffee, and of course, Water. I'm looking forward to the next race, probably another 5k so I have the opportunity to shave off some time.  From Jim Perry - Good little event with a fun family feel to the day. I was surprised, especially with the rain, to see this local race turn about 260 entrants. Nice rolling hill course, got eaten up by the second placer in the last mile, but happy to post a good time. Looks like some speed work is needed. :)
