Dennis Road Race / 5 miles / Dennis  / MA / Saturday, July 28 -
From Harold - The 5 mile Dennis Road Race has been on Sunday morning in the past but this year it was held on Saturday at 11:00 AM. With clear skies and high temperatures this was a hot race, but there was a nice breeze and two hydrants spraying on the fairly flat, fast course. There were 139 runners, T-shirts, plenty of water, snacks and awards. A nice race to run if you know someone in the area or if you like the Cape beaches. Get an early start, traffic can pile up at the bridges.

Blessing of the Fleet / 10 miles / Narragansett / RI / Friday, July 28 -  More than 2250 runners in this Classic with Mike Sawyer, Rich Allen and me (Martin Auty) running from Tri-Valley.  The weather was terrible and then got worse.  Hot and very humid at race time with a temperature of 90 and a dew point of 71 making for a heat index of near 95.  The sky looked threatening and brought a strong head wind in about twenty-five minutes into the race.  Next came the thunder and lightning, which always makes me jittery.  At about forty-five minutes into the race the rains came and I mean they came.  Blowing pelting rain with thunder and lightning, the streets were dark and eerie as we made our way back by the start and headed for the final two miles.  The water in the street was a half to one inch deep.  None of this seemed to deter the runners or most of the spectators that normally make this a neighborhood festival with cookouts and hundreds on hand throughout the race to cheer the runners on.  Well to make a long story short Mike Sawyer nearly set a PR running 59:50 and placing twenty-second overall and fourth in his division.  I came in one hundred and ninety-seventh and Rich Allen came in at two hundred and twenty-one.  All good finishes in this very good field.
