Dennis Road Race
/ 5 miles / Dennis /
MA / Saturday, July 28 - |
| From Harold - The 5
mile Dennis Road Race has been on Sunday morning in the past
but this year it was held on Saturday at 11:00 AM. With
clear skies and high temperatures this was a hot race, but
there was a nice breeze and two hydrants spraying on the
fairly flat, fast course. There were 139 runners, T-shirts,
plenty of water, snacks and awards. A nice race to run if
you know someone in the area or if you like the Cape
beaches. Get an early start, traffic can pile up at the
bridges. |

Blessing of the Fleet
/ 10 miles / Narragansett /
RI / Friday, July 28 -
More than 2250 runners in this Classic with Mike
Sawyer, Rich Allen and me (Martin Auty) running from
Tri-Valley. The weather was terrible and then got
worse. Hot and very humid at race time with a
temperature of 90 and a dew point of 71 making for a heat
index of near 95. The sky looked threatening and
brought a strong head wind in about twenty-five minutes into
the race. Next came the thunder and lightning, which
always makes me jittery. At about forty-five minutes
into the race the rains came and I mean they came.
Blowing pelting rain with thunder and lightning, the
streets were dark and eerie as we made our way back by the
start and headed for the final two miles. The water in
the street was a half to one inch deep. None of this
seemed to deter the runners or most of the spectators that
normally make this a neighborhood festival with cookouts and
hundreds on hand throughout the race to cheer the runners
on. Well to make a long story short Mike Sawyer nearly set a
PR running 59:50 and placing twenty-second overall and
fourth in his division. I came in one hundred and
ninety-seventh and Rich Allen came in at two hundred and
twenty-one. All good finishes in this very good field. |

race by the big three. Keith Neal, Mike Sawyer and
Larry Olsen finish two, three and four in Lowell.
Keith Second overall and second in his division. Mike third
overall and first in his division. Larry fourth
overall and first in his division. |
|
From
Keith Neal. Well put on race. Lots of food
and beer afterwards. Course is 2 miles of fairly
flat followed by 2 miles of rolling hills. The
final mile is downhill and flat. Tri-Valley had
an excellent showing placing 3 runners in the
top 4. |

Stowe
/ 8 miles / Stowe /
VT / Sunday, July 17-
.A hot and humid
day for six hundred and eighty nine runners. High
temps, high humidity and the Stowe course couldn't have made
this race much fun except for Larry who seems to excel in
the heat won
the Andy Palmer age graded (men's) prize for the 4th year in
a row.
Running third in his division and just over a six minute
pace. Mike Sawyer and George Cunha also had good races
for the men. The ladies were led by Irene Aurilio and
followed by Charlene Gaboriault and Mary Tyler. |

The Great
Harvard Fourth of July Race
/ 5 miles / Harvard /
MA / Tuesday, July 4 -
From John - Just
over 250 runners completed the 5 mile race. It was about 75
degrees and humid at the start of the race. The course has
rolling hills for the first 2+ miles, then a long steep hill
that starts just before mile 3. After the hill the course is
mostly flat to downhill with the last 3/4 mile all down
hill. Brent Schouler was also there and ran well; he
finished 3rd in his age group. Kathryn Fetteroll also ran
very well. Ted and Mary Tyler were there to watch the
race and take pictures. |
