Yankee Homecoming 10 Miler - Newburyport, MA - July 31, 2012 - From John: This was the coolest temp i have run in at this race high 60's and humid with light rain at the finish. Great crowd as always. a very competitive field. In the overall results i am eighth in division, but there is an 'overall division winners' category that recognizes the first five division finishers. I don't understand the difference. Still a great race overall and i was able to maintain a decent pace with some negative splits.

Casco Days Road Race - Casco, ME - July 28, 2012 - From Mike: Ran in a great community race up in Maine. It is a great race with great community support. Second year I have actually run this race. It is a 4 mile course through a scenic Maine route, with the first 2 miles with a good uphill climb with very little way in breaks. The last half is rolling hills. Great carnival afterwards that the kids always enjoy.

Old Port Half Marathon - Portland, ME - July 22, 2012 - From Jill Duhaime: Kerri Bertone and I ran the Old Port Half Marathon yesterday. It was a little hotter than we expected but it was a great race, and my longest race since my hip surgery! The race was outstanding, with free Shipyard beer, pizza, and ice cream to all the finishers. Plenty of water stops and cooling stations along the way. The course was scenic, with a combination of roads, grass, and gravel. Definitely recommended for a fun destination summer race.

East End Road Race 5 Milers - Lowell, MA - July 22, 2012 - From Mary Tyler: Success for me today! I was nervous about the 5 mile East End Club race in Lowell because it would be the farthest I've run since surgery, there's very little shade on the course (10:30 start), and it's a tough hilly course. I admit to some walking up (and down) the steepest hills, but I had been afraid I would be walking all of the last 2 miles, and instead I felt pretty good. No awards for me, but I'm definitely making progress coming back, so I was really happy. The race itself is a tough old classic with beer, hot dogs, hamburgers, etc. post race updated with chip timing and mile splits.

I had been tempted to try a double this weekend a run Saturday's race in Franklin, but I really wanted to try a longer race and didn't think I was ready yet for back to backs with the second one being longer than I had run for so long.

Jamestown Half Marathon - Jamestown, RI - July 14, 2012 - From Beth: It was a bit hot and humid and more hills than I anticipated but a beautiful course and great event. For the inaugural running it was well organized with plenty of volunteers and supplies. I had a challenging race but that was my bad for not better preparing not a reflection of the event. I would recommend this race.

Second Annual Miles Over the Moon 5K - Salem, MA - July 13, 2012 - From Mike: Weather was a little muggy and a little hot, but nothing too drastic considering July on the coast. A beautiful run through some of historic Salem. You start off at Salem Commons, run past the Witch Museum, through some of the older Salem neighborhoods, then into downtown Salem through the restaraunt and bar district. You end up passing the House of Seven Gables, the Witch cemetery and pass the waterfront before returning to the common for the final loop. I have run both editions of this race and this year was better organized and with better volunteer support. A great night for a great event put on by Wicked Running Club.

JP Morgan Corporate Challenge 3.5 Miles - Boston, MA - July 12, 2012 - From Jill: Kerri Bertone and I ran the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge last night in Boston, running for Team Putnam Investments. Temperatures in the mid-80's and 12,000 runners made it a hot and very crowded race, with lots of stopping, elbows, and dodging people. Great views of the Citgo sign and Back Bay, and it was fun representing our company.

Marathon Sports 5 Miler - Weston, MA - July 12, 2012 - Not quite the temperatures of last year when it was in the low 100s but still hot. Luckily there was a little bit of a breeze and the course was for the most part shady. New member Rawson Chaplin takes second in his division and Charlene Gaboriault takes second in hers.

From Rawson Chaplin: This was my 21st time running the race, going back to when it was called Nike Wellesley before Marathon Sports took over. Ever since the race moved to Weston in 2004 (and actually going back before that), the course has varied a little each year, which is annoying because time comparisons from year to year are rendered somewhat meaningless. But it's a fun race, so I keep on coming back.

From Mike Nixon: Not nearly as hot as last year with starting temps in the mid-80's. The race was held earlier in July this year, usually the 3rd Thursday in July, which might have explained the smaller crowd this year. Last year had 805 finishers versus this year's 660. Still a fantastic race with a great atmosphere and good amenities. This is a race I look forward to every July. Maybe we can put together a coed TVFR team to run it next year!s.

Harvard Pilgrim Finish at the 50 - Foxboro, MA - July 3, 2012 -  This race was run Tuesday night instead of last year's run on the 4th. This year a 5K was added that ran basically within the stadium. After the races, there was a fireworks display.

In the 10K, which was one of TVFRs July Grand Prix races, two TVFR runners placed in their age groups with John Dumont and Linda Zavalick taking second place finishes. Tony Caruso set a personal record!
