Bellingham Challenge 5K - Bellingham, MA -  April 26, 2009   -   From Martin Auty:  As most of you know we had the warmest weekend since last summer.  Not the best weather to run a race in but I suppose a 5K is a heck of a lot better than a longer race.  The Bellingham Challenge 5K is aptly named.  The course is very challenging.  Having run this course last year I was aware that the first mile is downhill with a long climb to mile 2.  The last mile is a sloping downhill followed by a long gradual uphill back to Bellingham High School.  Runners then enter the parking lot and run around the back of the school to the finish.  The last tenth if flat as a pancake but by then you don't have anything left to give.  About 150 runners in this race I finished twelfth overall and first in my division.  Here comes summer!

29th Annual Tri-Valley FrontRunner - BOSTON TUNE-UP - Saturday, April 11th   -  The largest number of finishers ever in this annual event.  With 260 runners crossing the finish line.  Also the largest number of volunteers and loads and loads of sweet carbohydrates for the runners and spectators.  Great job TVFR's.  The weather was light rain, wet roads and a temperature in of around 40 at race time.  The temperature went down, down down as the race continued finishing at about 36 degrees with a wind chill of 29.  All and all a typical spring day i New England, that didn't  deter the runners, volunteers or spectators.  New Member Glenn Miller was the first Tri-Valley runner in finishing in eighth place and fifth in his division.  Meredith Dutton was the first female Tri-Valley runner across the line in twelfth place, first woman and first in her division.  Don Basso was third in his division.  New Members Ismael Serrano and Catherine Wickremeratne had good races .  Jerry Sawyer in his longest race in a few years and Katie Knox and Kathleen Grevers both with great times.  Complete Race Results Here Cool Running

3rd Rabbit Ramble 5K Road Race - Saturday, April 11th   -  The course is a one loop run starting and finishing at the Wrentham Fair Grounds.  The course is pretty flat and wide open.  I only mention that because with winds was cold and wet during the race.  The field was much smaller than last year with only 99 finishers down from about 180 last year and may be related to the weather.  I finished fourteenth overall and second in my division but was in such a hurry to get to Upton to watch the Tune-Up I didn't stay for the awards.

15th Annual Thomas Giunta 5K - Fall River, MA - April 5- 2009   -  Over 1000 runners in this race on a breezy but beautiful day in Fall River.  Russell chipping away at his 5K time with a very respectable sixty-six overall.

From Russell Fradkin: The Thomas Guinta 5K in Fall  River is an annual memorial event for police officer Guinta who was killed some 15 years ago  in  the line of duty.  The race attracts troops of police,  fire fighters, and national  guard from all over the region....the race has grown  every year and this year there were 1038 runners. The weather was beautiful...cool  and sunny,  but breezy.  The first mile is all  uphill  but then the rest of the course is fairly flat with  few turns.....and lots o'  good  food at the finish. The good news is that  I finished 66 out of 1038  and beat  my time from my last race of a month ago  by about 30  seconds.  The bad news is that I had hoped to  do  better but I wimped out at the 2 mile water stop  and actually had to  stop  for 15 seconds to  rest  my tired out, out of breath  body...my conditioning isn't as good as I had thought it was apparently. This is one of my favorite races due to  the fact that it is for a good cause,  I like a course with  the hill  being at the beginning or the course, the food is great,  and it is a trip  down   memory lane for me as I grew up  in Fall River.
