From John: I started out in the 50 mile race but as a result of lack of training due to injuries over the previous 2 months I dropped down to the 50k after 34.5 miles.  Sherry PR'ed at the 50k distance.

Great Bear Run 5K, Needham - May 18, 2014

From Sarah: I can't say I ripped it up with my 23:41 but glad track workouts are in full swing because now that marathon training is over the season, I'm focusing more on speed.  This is a really nice family race with several kids races for all ages, including babies.  There's face painting, snacks, pizza, a magic show and awards.  At the end of the 5k, everyone received a small medal and teddy bear.

Holyoke Community College Cougar Crawl 5K, Holyoke - May 4, 2014

From Russell: I ran the Holyoke Cougars 5K on Sunday May 4th.  This was a rather challenging course with 4 long uphills, with the 4th being right near the finish.  There was a nice bar-b-que after.  Early on there was a small group of runners who went way out and there was one runner with them who looked to be in my age group.  At about the one mile mark, he started to fade back towards me, and near the top of hill #3 I was almost up to him.  But I could tell I was close to bonking so I purposefully decided to walk for a half a minute to catch my breath and regroup and hope to save myself and try to catch him on hill #4....and that is what happened, as I passed him midway up that final hill and ended up finishing 1st in my division ( my goal ) but actually ended up 'on the podium' finishing 3rd overall!!  Quite happy as that is my last race before I age out of my division.

Cox Sports Marathon, Providence, RI - May 4, 2014

From Sarah: I finished in 4:08:51 which is about a 14 min improvement from last year's Cape Cod marathon!  The day turned out to be very hot and extremely windy, especially running on the coast near the water.  At times I felt like I couldn't move because the wind was blowing me back.  I suppose I could've anticipated the heat but I had no idea it would be that windy out there!  A good day all around and I'm happy with my finish.

Race of Rams 5K, Northbridge - May 4, 2014

5K

From Coleen: Extremely hilly 5K.  By far one of the toughest routes I have run but what an enjoyable race.  They had a duathlon, kids race and kids duathlon. Tons of field games and bouncy houses. A great family event.  Already looking forward to next year.  My son's first race that he completed entirely by himself.  Paxton is 2 1/2 and was able to take part in the fun run around the baseball field. He is unbelievably proud of his medal!! So are we.

North Face Endurance Challenge, Bear Mountain, NY - May 3, 2014

From Anthony: This past Saturday I did the 50K distance North Face Endurance Challenge at Bear Mountain, in the Catskills of NY.  This was one of the most challenging races I've ever done.  The course was 31 miles of relentless boulders, rock gardens, and root beds.  We had beautiful sunny weather on race day, but steady rain the whole previous week left all of the low-lying areas wet and muddy.  My feet were completely soaked or caked in mud a half mile into the race, and stayed that way all day.  Add in the over 5000 feet of elevation gain, and anyone who knows me can see why I loved this race so much!  I was thrilled to place in the top 30% of the field on such a tough course!
