Pacifica Foothills Trail Half Marathon - Pacifica, CA- January 19, 2013 - From Rich: I jumped into this race at the end of a business trip out to CA. They run a 10K, Half, 30K, Marathon, and 50K all together. The half is an out and back up Montara Mountain followed by a 10K loop. Total elevation gain was 3050. My slowest mile was 15:20; my fastest 7:30. Weather was perfect, about 50 degrees at the start and 60 at the finish. There were beautiful views of the valley down to Pacifica and the ocean. Finished 25th overall and 3rd age group.

The Extreme Wolverine Challenge - Stratton Mountain, VT - January 12, 2013 -  From John: The race was put on by MCD who use sporting events to raise funds for charities. This inaugural event was a five-mile obstacle course race along the snow covered cross-country ski trails at Stratton Mt, VT. I ran as part of the Milford Fire team who took first place in that category by virtue of being the sole fire department team. Four of our six team members scored beating all other teams from other catergories. This event is great fun with some challenging obstacles, but the soft and sometimes deep snow is the real challenge even with all of our team using Yak Trax attached to our running shoes. A nice departure from the roads.

5K Resolution Run to Kick Cancel - Lexington, MA - January 5, 2013 -  Warming up after the bitter cold of the past week. Several TVFRers made the trek up to Lexington for the second January TVFR Grand Prix race. Close to 1000 runners for this Saturday race. Linda Usher gets a first place division win and Ted Tyler grabs a third place finish in his division.

From Mary Tyler: Both Ted and I ran this one. Ted has had some setbacks since his heart attack including developing Afib, but felt good today and ran better than he has since September - a good start to the New Year, and 3rd place in his age group! I ran faster than I did last week at Lowell - less wind and not as cold, no asthma problems - so I was happy, too. The course was fairly flat as promised, the post-race food was great with multiple area restaurants contributing pasta, pizza and pastries along with fruit, salad, sandwiches, and a variety of hot and cold drinks, plenty of room in the field house for everyone, and a small expo, too. Indoor restrooms and lines weren't bad, especially if you realized the whole school was open so you could use restrooms in the main building. All in all a most positive race experience!

13th Annual Wrentham Lions New Year's 5K - Norfolk, MA - January 1, 2013 -  This is basically an uphill course which Harry Jarvis used to his advantage. Coming up the final stretch, Harry knew he could not catch the guy in front of him on the straight away but waited for the uphill and just zoomed by him to finish in 11th place. Jill Duhaime did well considering the pressure of having race number 1

TVFR cleaned up on division medals with 11 of us getting medals. First places included Glenn Miller, Jason Stock and Charlene Gaboriault. Second place medals went to Harold Jarvis, Julia Caruso, Joe Drugan, Sue Simmons, Robyn Sullivan and Linda Zavalick. Rich Victor and Richard Van Wie grab third place finishes in their divisions.
